Dr. Peter Terp
Dr. Terp grew up in North York and his parents still reside in his childhood home. Of Danish descent, he is a fluent Danish speaker. Dr. Terp knew from an early age he wanted to become a veterinarian. He says he always felt a connection with animals. In fact, as a child he rode his bike to the library every week and took out “the maximum number of books possible” and eventually read every animal related book in his local library.
Dr. Terp graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1985. Immediately after graduating Dr. Terp travelled east to the Maritimes and worked with pets and race horses for a time before returning to Toronto in 1987. For the next 15 years he worked in over 30 small animal practices as an associate veterinarian and as a locum, further developing his medical and surgical skills. Dr. Terp was hired as an associate veterinarian at Renforth in 2002. Dr. Lixfeld, RVC’s founder, and Dr. Terp worked together for 3 years before Dr. Lixfeld sold the practice to Dr. Terp and retired in 2005. Dr. Terp and the team at RVC are committed to carrying on the compassionate care practice philosophy instituted by Dr. Lixfeld, while implementing relevant current medical technologies.
Dr. Terp lives in Mississauga with his wife, Danya and their 2 children Anna and Erik. The Terps share their home with Callaway (Cal), a husky cross, Caddy, a golden retriever and Molly, Anna’s guinea pig. Dr. Terp is an avid golfer, skier and angler; he says he can’t get enough of any of them.
Dr. Dawn Hughes-Bissonnette
Dr. Hughes-Bissonnette (she prefers Dr. Dawn) grew up on Prince Edward Island and her family of origin still lives there. Always an animal lover it was actually a tragic event that made her future path to veterinary medicine clear to her. When she was a child, her uncle’s dog was struck by a car and she knew right then that she needed to learn how to help. Dr. Dawn attended the Ontario Veterinary College and graduated in 1986.
Dr. Dawn’s husband, whom she met while studying at the OVC, is also a veterinarian. Together they ran a mixed rural practice in Shelburne, ON for a number of years. Dr. Dawn’s focus was pets and horses. They currently live in Erin with quite a menagerie of pets - two black labs Oasis and Chaos (who are mother and son), three cats, Bentley, Beanie and Shelagh.
Dr. Dawn has always had a fascination with horses and inarguably they became one of her true life passions. She boards her three horses (Tammy, Si and Lily) near Hillsburgh, and trains horses and riders in dressage with a ‘Natural Touch’. She is a Parelli Natural Horsemanship Level 3 graduate and is an approved Certified Horsemanship Association Instructor.
At Renforth Dr. Dawn is a calming presence and by all accounts a wonderful doctor. Her innate gentle touch and intuition make her an indispensable member of our team. She does an excellent job of marrying traditional medicine with proven naturopathic treatments and is currently working on becoming certified in acupuncture.
Dr. May Daicos
Dr. Daicos says she can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to become a veterinarian. She remembers often being in trouble with her parents for constantly bringing home stray animals in need of care. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995, after completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph. Over the past 20 years she has worked at a number of small animal practices in the GTA. Dr. Daicos joined Renforth’s team in 2007.
Dr. Daicos’s experience, flexibility and cheerful disposition make her a true asset at our hospital. Her clinical interests include internal medicine and dermatology.
Dr. Daicos lives with her husband and 2 young children in Richmond Hill.
Dr. Pam White
Dr. Pam White came by veterinary medicine very honestly – she was practically raised in her father’s veterinary clinic! She grew up in Simcoe, Ontario where her father owned a mixed practice hospital. Her passion for animals, scientific nature and her family history made a veterinary career a natural choice. Dr. White graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1986.
After graduating Dr. White worked at her father’s practice as an associate vet for 15 years. Thereafter she worked at various clinics and moved to the Mississauga area in 2008 and joined the Renforth team in 2009. Dr. White lives with her 2 cats Lillian (a beautiful Siamese cross) and Mimi (a cute brown tabby). Lillian is 16 years old and slowing down, but still enjoying life and Mimi is still a cute and fun kitty at the age of 8.
Dr. White’s extensive knowledge and clinical experience make her a trusted associate at Renforth. Her meticulous nature ensures that everyone at RVC stays up to date on important news and advancements in veterinary medicine. Her clinical interests include internal medicine, endocrinology and neurology.
Dr. White says she is interested in just about everything! Her main interests are nature watching (including birding, whale watching, astronomy, weather, geology, etc), the arts and travel. She enjoys visiting art galleries, attending operas and symphonies. Favourite travel destinations include Paris, France and Atlantic Canada.
